What is a Personal Brand

A common misconception people have about personal branding is that personal branding is optional or only for business owners. A personal brand is simply someone’s perception of you and what you have to offer. Everyone has a personal brand whether they like it or not and everyone will benefit from taking control of their own narrative. When being intentional about developing and delivering your brand, you will unlock a world of opportunity that aligns with you and your purpose. That is why we like to define your personal brand as your personality, gifts, talents, skills, and area of expertise wrapped up, tied with a bow, and presented to the world.

Step 1: Discover

Skipping this crucial step defeats the purpose of personal branding. The key to the success and longevity of a brand is authenticity. One can’t be authentic without knowing what they are staying true to. Assessing your values, strengths, pain points or weaknesses, passions or interests, skills, and areas of expertise allows you to get a comprehensive look as to what your brand will stand for, the industries your brand can tap into, the audience you can gather, and the opportunities you should say yes or no to.

Step 2: Develop

Now that you have taken the time to reflect and assess all the aspects of your personal brand identity, it is time to address the weaknesses and pain-points, and fine tune what you want your brand to focus on. If you are notorious for running late, this would be the time to learn great time management skills. If you wrote down a vast list of passions and interests, now is the time to assess which best align with something you see yourself really diving into and want to be known for. By the end of this step, you will have the blueprint to your brand and its time to start wrapping that gift.

Step 3: design

The contents of your gift package are ready to go and now its about getting that package ready to present to the world. This is the time to create your unique value proposition - your one liner that shares who you are, what you do, and why you do it. That modern-day elevator pitch will be a part of your full brand story where you can dive deeper into your values, and how you got to be to where you are today, and why this is the path you have chosen to pursue. Next, it is time to choose your brand design elements such as your logo, fonts, colors, etc. Following that, its time to spruce up your social media profiles - ESPECIALLY LinkedIn, take some new and refreshed headshots, build your website, and create any brand specific products or services.

Step 4: Deliver

Now it is time to present your brand to the world. Launch your website, start networking with people who align with your brand, and provide content related to your brand’s niche. The world has become digitized so digital content is going to be your best friend. Create engaging social media content or start a blog! Whatever outlet you decide to use, it is time to consistently highlight and share what your personal brand is all about.

Everyone has a brand, only a select few are in control of it. We exist to help more individuals just like you control your narrative and build a strong personal brand for themselves to not only unlock a world of additional opportunities for your career or business, but to help you live a life of intention, purpose, and alignment - a life you love.
